Walmart has big plans for its convenience store operations in 2025.

The retailer, which currently operates more than 400 gas and convenience stores nationwide, is poised to open or remodel more than 45 fuel stations across the United States this year.

With the new openings, Walmart will have more than 450 gas and c-store locations across 34 states. These Walmart fuel and convenience locations offer low prices on snacks and beverages, and Walmart+ members save up to 10 cents per gallon with their membership.

We shall see if this expansion is just an isolated step in Walmart’s business strategy, or more actions of similar nature shall follow. The latter, as much as the traditional players in this game don’t want to admit, is more likely.

The battle for the convenience-oriented customers is definitely warming up, and Walmart hopes to pull them into their stores by offering a “blue light special”. The competitors may wish to take this into consideration.

Under these circumstances, it certainly pays to be well informed, which means having accurate and up-to-date location intelligence. While major players are willing and able to spend big dollars for the data scientists and analysts, smaller operators may not have such luxury.

But you want to stay in the game, and – ideally – to go ahead and win big. Right?

The way to do it is to partner with recognized experience in location intelligence and data analytics, like Ticon. So, when you need support from an expert on retail site selection, to help you with growing in the right areas, and in optimal locations, all you need to do is to make one call to Ticon.
