As of July 13, 2026, Playa Bowls’ first international opening at The Well in Toronto offers more than a retail expansion story. It is a reminder that growth brands increasingly choose dense, mixed-use urban districts where consumer discovery, pedestrian movement, commuter flows, and brand visibility converge. For out-of-home advertisers, that same environment raises a familiar question: which placements actually create attention, and which merely sit near traffic?

The difference matters. A new quick-service concept entering a market is not just selecting a storefront. It is entering a field of movement, timing, demographics, and repeated exposure. OOH advertising can shape awareness around that launch, but only if advertisers and billboard owners understand the traffic patterns around the audience they are trying to reach.

C-Site Insight for Advertising Industry, developed by Ticon’s analytical team, addresses this problem by replacing broad location assumptions with precise traffic evidence. As described in C-Site Insight for Advertising Industry by Gregory Brodski, Arthur Stepanyan, Tanya Kozakevich, and Alexander Naskidashvily, the platform is purpose-built for advertisers, billboard owners, and site selectors who need to compare locations based on total traffic, local and transit traffic composition, seasonal and daily fluctuations, total viewing time, and viewing time distribution.

That distinction is especially relevant for OOH advertising around retail and restaurant expansion. A corridor may look attractive because it carries a high average annual daily traffic volume, but OOH performance depends on more than vehicle counts. Drivers moving too quickly may have limited opportunity to notice and process a message. Drivers moving slowly because of congestion may behave differently from drivers slowing because the road network invites stopping, shopping, or turning into a retail destination. C-Site evaluates these differences through traffic speed, acceleration, lane distribution, road network characteristics, traffic organization, terrain, weather, and other local factors.

For advertisers, this changes the planning conversation. Instead of asking only, “How many vehicles pass this billboard?” they can ask, “How many relevant viewers pass this location, when do they pass, how long can they see the message, and does the surrounding movement pattern match the campaign objective?”

Ticon’s methodology is built on continuous year-round observation of traffic at the exact location of interest. The advertising report notes that Ticon provides almost 100 percent road network coverage, including more than 97 percent of roads classified FRC 6 and up, along with 100 percent time coverage. Raw inputs from independent sources, including permanent and portable traffic detectors, traffic counters, GPS data, connected vehicle data, GIS information, demographics, traffic organization, and events, are cross-verified, filtered, and processed through Ticon’s proprietary algorithm. The result is a high-resolution spatial and temporal traffic dataset capable of estimating and visualizing speeds, volumes, and related metrics for road segments as short as 35 feet, with an average segment length of about 120 feet.

That level of precision matters in OOH because two billboards on the same arterial road can have different commercial value. A board facing a high-speed transit flow may produce large impression estimates, while another board a short distance away may reach fewer vehicles but give drivers more time to absorb the message. C-Site’s advertising methodology evaluates this by analyzing speed distribution and calculating viewing time for each 15-minute interval. The report then consolidates the findings into decision-ready outputs, including site traffic maps, intra-day speed and volume charts, average daily traffic by month, congested hours, viewing time by time of day, total viewing time, and demographic profiles.

One example from Ticon’s OOH research on an I-84 road section in Hartford, Connecticut illustrates the point. In that location, 95 percent of vehicles had more than 15 seconds to absorb the billboard message. Since a common digital billboard ad cycle is 8 seconds before the message changes, many drivers in that traffic environment had time to register at least two advertisers during a single viewing interval. For a digital OOH operator, that is not a minor technical detail. It can inform rotation strategy, creative sequencing, and pricing by hour.
